 The world revolves around children at SOS Children's Villages! The living conditions, the opportunities for development, the needs and concerns of children and families are always the focus of our work. More... The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is the human rights instrument, which has been ratified by the most countries around the world. Nevertheless, millions of children across the world are still not adequately protected, supported, heard or involved in decisions that directly affect their lives. SOS Children's Villages places a particular emphasis on the rights of children who do not live in the security of their families or whose families are seriously disadvantaged. We get involved through different networks, projects, campaigns, cooperation and intensive lobbying for their interests and needs. More... In areas where infrastructure is lacking, which are within in the catchment areas of SOS Children's Villages, we build medical centres which specialise in providing care for children and women. The centres offer, according to needs, basic care through vaccination campaigns, small maternity wards, related advice on hygiene, nutrition and first aid, education on HIV/AIDS and prevention, as well as psychosocial services. Another aspect is the mental, social and psychological health or therapeutic monitoring of children and young people who live at SOS Children's Villages.
More... Help must be provided quickly, without bureaucracy and in a targeted manner in situations of crisis, war and disaster. In such traumatic situations children in particular need specific protection and intensive care. SOS Children's Villages is not a designated emergency relief organisation, but in many countries it is in the position to fall back on an established infrastructure if rapid intervention is required in times of crisis. The target group of our emergency relief measures, which often turn into long-term projects, is children and families. More... Disrespect, exploitation and discrimination of women are part of everyday life in many countries and cultures. One of the reasons that women are disadvantaged is that they do not have equal rights in terms of education and training. SOS Children's Villages therefore promotes better education opportunities for girls and women. More... |
