SOS Villages are a positive environment designed to help children reach their full potential. Clusters of individual homes share recreational facilities and administrative offices, creating a true sense of community. But the real strength of the Village lies in the collective power of foster parents, staff, and the surrounding community to help children find new hope and trust. With a stable home, caring siblings, and a loving foster parent, the children can have happy childhoods and grow into caring, responsible, self-supporting adults.
Established in 1949, SOS Children’s Villages is active in 132 countries around the world providing thousands of orphaned children a safe, healthy and loving environment. The first US-based SOS Children’s Village was established in Florida in 1993. Two additional SOS Villages soon followed in 1994 in the Chicago, Illinois area.
