Santa Cruz (Bolivia) - © B. NeelemanRegardless of geographic boundaries, SOS Children’s Villages advocates the "right to quality care" as set out in the UN Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children.
In fulfilling our obligation to ensure the highest standards of care, we strive to continuously improve the quality of our services and interventions by ongoing research and by adapting to innovative modern approaches to the care of children.
In our role as advocates, we draw on our experiences in the field in order to urge states to reform and improve their care systems so as to ensure that the needs of children come first.
UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
Children without parental care are especially vulnerable to many of the world's ills, and therefore have particular rights under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. SOS Children's Villages upholds these rights and works to create the best possible family environment for children.
In 2009, the UN General Assembly in New York welcomed the UN Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children. This was a huge step towards ensuring the rights of millions of children worldwide who are either without parental care or at risk of losing it.
Recognizing the importance of these guidelines, SOS Children's Villages was involved in their development and is now promoting their implementation.
