When humanitarian crises occur, SOS is there to quickly move children out of harm’s way and into safe environments, where we provide the food, clothing, medical care and psychological support the children need. We also reunite children with their families, deliver life-saving aid to affected families, and offer special protection and care to traumatized children.

SOS Children’s Villages has worked in Ukraine since 2003. Since war broke out in February 2022, we have expanded our presence in Ukraine from two regions to 17 and relocated thousands of children and families out of high-risk zones, providing shelter, health care and employment opportunities in 15 neighboring countries.
With the support of our generous donors and partners, we have directly helped 369,690 people in Ukraine, including 221,210 children since the war began. Still, more than 14.6 million people—including 4.1 million children—will need urgent humanitarian aid in 2024. We can’t do it without your help. Your generosity keeps families together, reunites families that have been separated and protects children who are alone.
More than half of the world’s 68 million refugees are children.
Around the world, people are fleeing their homes because of conflict, disaster or unrest. For instance, Uganda hosts more than a million refugees from South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and other neighboring countries. Other conflicts and catastrophes have sparked mass displacement in North Africa, Ukraine, the Caucasus, South Asia and Latin America.
Our top priority—as always—is to protect children, regardless of location or situation. Amid the conflict, teams from SOS Children’s Villages in Gaza, SOS Children’s Villages in the West Bank and SOS Children’s Villages in Israel are on the ground, collaborating in unity to deploy humanitarian aid and safeguard vulnerable children.
We successfully evacuated 68 children, ages two through 14, and 11 employees and their families from our children’s village in Rafah, in southern Gaza, to a safer location in Bethlehem in the West Bank in March 2024. Our SOS Children’s Village in Rafah continues admitting children who have lost parental care in the ongoing war and hosts more than 100 internally displaced people, many of them children. Your support provides children with immediate, life-saving relief such as food, water, clothing and psychological support so they can heal from trauma.
SOS Children’s Villages has provided support to vulnerable children and communities in Bangladesh since 1973. Since 2018, our work in Bangladesh has included responding to the urgent needs of Rohingya children and families at the Kutupalong and Balukhali refugee camps.
In March 2018, there were an estimated 800,000 Rohingya refugees living in camps, with more on the way. They fled due to the unimaginable violence that was perpetuated against them in Myanmar. In the camps, they face new challenges, as humanitarian agencies struggle to provide sufficient shelter, food, medical assistance and clean water.
