January 8, 2010: SOS Children's Villages India has won India's PHD Chamber of Commerce Award for "Outstanding Contribution to Social Welfare."  Mr. Rakesh Jinsi, National Director of SOS Children's Villages India, accepted the prize from India's Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi on December 23, 2009.

Established in 1905, the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry is a multi-state organization that works to promote economic growth and development in India.  The PHD Chamber Annual Awards for Excellence recognize organizations and individuals for their outstanding achievements and contributions in economic, social and educational areas.

Upon accepting the award, Rakesh Jinsi said, "It is a moment of extreme pride and honor to have received such a prestigious award. This award again emphasizes and restates the strong belief and faith of Founder Father Dr. Hermann Gmeiner, who successfully began with the SOS Movement 60 years ago. The award brings along with it a greater responsibility and promise to excel in our stream."

SOS currently runs 40 Villages in India as well as 122 SOS Nurseries, Schools, Social, Medical, and Vocational Training Centers that reach out to over 15,000 local children and adults.
