Three ways you can fight gender inequality today!

Building strong families starts with gender equality.

A brighter future for children and families is only possible when women and girls have equal opportunities to thrive. Yet systemic barriers continue to limit women’s access to education, economic independence and safety—preventing them from reaching their full potential.

But you can help change that.

This Gender Equality Month, here are three ways you can take action and help break gender-based barriers.

  1. Fundraise with RBG for women and girls’ empowerment

When the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg received the Berggruen Prize—a $1 million award recognizing leaders who shape the world—she didn’t keep it.

RBG believed in the power of compassionate generosity and donated frequently to SOS Children’s Villages and other organizations. When she received the award, she researched where it could make the greatest impact and used it to support women and girls.

RBG spent her life fighting for equality for the most vulnerable, breaking down gender-based barriers and advocating for a future where everyone has the resources to design their own futures.

With her family’s guidance and support, we created the RBG Endowment for women and girls’ empowerment, ensuring girls can grow up in a safe home, receive a quality education and access opportunities for a brighter future.

“Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.” –The Late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

This Gender Equality Month—and the month of RBG’s birthday—you can continue her mission of compassion, leadership and inspiration by starting a fundraiser for girls and women!

Achieving equality is an act of community. By mobilizing your friends, family and coworkers, you can help create generational change and a more equitable world for all.

Fundraise for gender equality

  1. Become an SOS Guardian and protect girls in crisis

Globally, women and girls are disproportionately affected by armed conflict, natural disasters and climate change.

  • 70% of women experience gender-based or sexual violence in emergencies.

  • 60% of preventable maternal deaths happen in conflict or natural disasters.

  • Girls in war zones are 90% more likely to be out of school.

These crises feed cycles of poverty, family breakdown and oppression for women and girls—but you can help rewrite the future.

You can provide the protection, health care, education and more that women and girls need during emergencies.

By becoming an SOS Guardian, you can shield girls from the horrors of armed conflict, natural disasters and other emergency situations—offering immediate aid and ensuring long-term recovery, so girls can heal, recover and build a brighter future.

Shield a girl in crisis

  1. Shop economic empowerment gifts in the SOS catalog

Financial independence is one of the most powerful tools for gender equality—yet women around the world face gender-based barriers that leave them more economically disadvantaged than their male counterparts.

  • One in 10 women live in extreme poverty.

  • Women are over 4% more food insecure than men.

  • Less than 15% of agricultural landholders globally are women.

Closing the gender gap in farming alone could increase gross domestic product (GDP) by 1%—equating nearly $1 trillion USD.

You can bridge the economic gap for women by choosing a gift from our Gift Shop.

You can deliver the training, resources and opportunities women need to achieve financial independence—like beginning a small business or owning their own livestock

With your support, a mother can lift her entire family out of poverty and teach her daughters the skills they need to build a secure, brighter future!
