Stir frying is a traditional Chinese method of cooking that involves preparing food in a wok. If you don’t a wok, a large frying pan works just fine! The stir fry our SOS mothers make is as easy as can be—as long as you can sauté, you can make a stir fry!

There are 10 SOS Children’s Villages in China, which provide services for more than 1,100 children in their regions! You can find out more about our work in China here.

Did you know? Wok frying may have been used as early as the Han Dynasty (206 B.C. – 220 A.D.) for drying grain!

Ingredients:

  • 2 bags frozen vegetables
  • 1 lb. beef, cut into thin strips
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tsp. fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 tbsp. soy sauce
  • Oil for frying
  • Noodles or fried rice (optional)

Tools:

  • Wok or deep frying pan

Directions:

1. Heat the oil in a wok or deep frying pan. Add the beef strips to the wok and quickly brown them. Remove them when they are brown on both sides and worked through.

2. Add your frozen veggies to the wok and cook, stirring constantly, for about 2 minutes.

3. Add the beef strips back into the pan, along with the garlic, soy sauce and ginger.

4. Allow the mixture to simmer for 5-10 minutes, just long enough to cook everything through while also letting the veggies retain their crunchiness.

5. Serve over noodles or fried rice. Makes 4 servings.

6. Enjoy with family and friends!
