BURKINA FASO
One sunny afternoon in Burkina Faso, Amin* and his cousin and best friend Samir* were tending the family’s sheep herd. But in seconds, their idyllic afternoon dissolved into a nightmare when an armed group stormed their village. Both boys ran for safety, but Samir was tragically killed.
“Samir and Amin were inseparable. After he died, my son’s life changed,” Issouf, Amin’s father, said. “He stopped talking. He would cry all day and hardly eat anything. He was frightened by the slightest thing.”
Amin is one of thousands of children in Burkina Faso who have witnessed life-shattering violence, and though his family moved to a safer location, the trauma of his friend’s death stayed with him.
But thanks to friends like you who are dedicated to protecting and caring for children in crisis, Amin connected with an SOS therapist. Now, Amin is healthy, healing and planning for a bright future as a livestock entrepreneur!
COLOMBIA
A hunger crisis threatens children and families’ lives and futures—especially for the thousands of children who migrate from Venezuela to Colombia.
Unable to access services and meet their basic needs, these children are increasingly vulnerable to malnutrition, exploitation and other dangers.
But with compassionate friends like you, SOS protects and provides for children in crisis.
With three child-friendly spaces in Colombia, we provide care, protection, informal education and hundreds of nutritious meals a day to Venezuelan children who have migrated to Colombia. These healthy and delicious meals fuel a child’s potential and leftovers are carefully packaged for children to take home and share with their families.
Thanks to SOS Guardians like you, we’ve distributed more than 72,000 nutritious meals to vulnerable children in need!
GAZA
Gravely injured by the conflict in the Middle East, Karim’s mother passed away while giving birth. The newborn baby, trapped in the chaos of war, had no one—until a rescue worker brought the baby to the SOS Children’s Village encampment in Gaza.
Karim could have been abandoned, left to suffer the horrors of war alone.
But SOS Guardians like you shielded him from the life-threatening dangers of war.
Now, Karim is surrounded by love, comfort and all the resources his little body, mind and heart need to grow while SOS staff searches for any living relatives with whom he can be reunited.
