When most young people turn 18, their parents support them with the emotional, financial and practical help they need as they attend college, trade school or enter the workforce.  

But children who grow up in alternative care—like orphanages, group homes or foster families—don’t have a support system to help them understand the complexities of young adulthood.  

As soon as they turn 18, they are forced to leave their home and navigate housing, finances, education and other major life decisions.
