No Child Alone: Care for children is one of the best investments the global community can make

Today is Universal Children’s Day, the anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which stresses that all children must be protected, all children have a right to have all they need to grow and develop, and all children have a right to be cared for.

Today is Universal Children’s Day, the anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which stresses that all children must be protected, all children have a right to have all they need to grow and develop, and all children have a right to be cared for.

To commemorate the day, we asked children all over the world to show us how their mom or dad care for them

It was heartwarming to receive more than 400 video clips from children all over the world who captured these touching moments with their parents.

But the sad reality is that 1 in 10 children—220 million children worldwide—can’t share any of these moments because they’re growing up alone—without anyone to care for them.

Why is care important?

When children are alone they are most likely to experience human rights violations such as poverty and exclusion, higher levels of violence, human trafficking, and lack of access to education and medical services. There is a scientifically proven connection between the amount of love and care children receive and their mental health and ability to learn. Without a loving family to care for them, children cannot reach their full potential.

Care for children is one of the best investments the global community can make.

Children who grow up in a caring environment are more likely to be mentally and emotionally stable, and to develop essential skills that will enable them to shape their own futures and actively contribute to the development of their communities.

Since 1949, SOS Children’s Villages has been working tirelessly to build strong families for the world’s most vulnerable children. Through the #NoChildAlone global campaign, we are working to make sure every child grows up in a loving, stable family.

But we can’t do this alone. We need your help to make sure that every child has what they need to shape their own futures: a stable family, quality medical care and education.

Join SOS Children’s Villages in honoring Universal Children’s Day by watching and sharing this video.
