Alexander Finds the Freedom to Pursue His Soccer Dreams at SOS Children's Villages

(6/23/2014): Alexander came to the SOS Village in Isolo, Nigeria when he was four years old.

Quiet, friendly, and easy-going, Alexander showed a keen interest in playing soccer. He always played spectacularly and exceeded expectations for his age. Also, his skill level was rare for a left-leg player.

Both inside and outside of the SOS Village, Alexander quickly gained a reputation as an incredible soccer player.

One of his first big moments came at the Agege stadium in Lagos, Nigeria. He was chosen as the outstanding player in an introductory soccer course organized by FIFA in conjunction with the Pepsi Football Academy.

When he plays a soccer match, every eye is on him.

"Alexander is a colorful boy and passionate about his game. He truly loves soccer," Alexander’s SOS Mother, Regina, said.

Now, at 24 years old, the striker is stronger and even more skilled. He still works hard to achieve his goals.

In order to keep up his physical strength, he plays after school and at weekends with boys from his community.

Alexander said he hopes more African teams will qualify for future World Cups.
When Alexander was welcomed into his SOS family, he not only found a loving home and family, he also found a safe place to pursue his life’s passion – soccer.
