01/6/2014: 2013 was an amazing year for SOS Children’s Villages, as SOS opened an emergency relief program in the Philippines, expanded our work in war-torn Syria, and provided loving, stable families for over 80,000 children worldwide. 2014 is promising to be an even more exciting year: First and foremost, SOS will be there for orphaned and abandoned children; with loving mothers, a warm bed, healthy meals, quality education and medical care, and everything else a child needs to grow and thrive. In the year ahead, SOS will be supporting more than 540 Villages. SOS will continue to play a leading role in the typhoon recovery efforts in the Philippines, and provide support for children caught up in violent conflict in Syria, the Central African Republic, and other areas of crisis. Another important priority for the organization in 2014 is to help more children before they are at risk of abandonment. SOS does this by working with families in crisis or experiencing severe poverty; SOS provides them with counseling, financial support, and other tools to help keep families together. SOS believes that whenever possible, children should be with their parents and siblings. SOS will continue to provide ongoing support for young people until they are truly ready to live on their own. Far too often, children “age out” of care before they have really grown up. All children, but especially orphaned and abandoned children who have already suffered great loss, need someone to support them as they develop into independent adults. This is our vision for 2014. To support this vision, make a donation to children in need, and allow SOS to continue working for the welfare of children around the world.
