SOS Children's Villages builds families for orphaned, abandoned and other vulnerable children in 135 countries, including the United States.

Poverty is one of the main factors affecting girls in Cambodia today.

For Komarey, an orphaned girl in Cambodia, living in poverty meant she couldn’t go to school. It meant she didn’t know when her next meal would be. It meant believing that prostitution—the only option she saw girls in her community have— was the only way to make money.

Studies have shown that investing in girls creates long-term social and economic benefits for the whole world. When girls like Komarey have a stable family, an education and a healthy and safe environment, they can lift themselves, their families and their communities out of poverty.

When you sponsor a girl, you make sure that a girl who has lost her family doesn’t lose everything. Orphaned, abandoned, and vulnerable girls will grow up in one of our SOS families with an SOS Mother and sisters and brothers — with every effort made to keep biological siblings together. Each home is headed by a trained caregiver, an SOS Mother, who raises each child with the individual care and attention they need. As a family, they build emotional ties together that last a lifetime.
