Press release about SOS Children's Villages and Kevin Bacon Partnership.
"The world is kind of crazy right now. But one thing we can all agree on—no matter what else we believe—is that children deserve a fair playing field. In a real way, children build bridges among us; our common bond is that we all want kids to be supported. We all understand that they’re our future."
Kevin Bacon is a Golden Globe-winning actor, musician, philanthropist and founder of SixDegrees.Org. He first became involved with SOS Children’s Villages in December 2018, when SOS-USA partnered with SixDegrees.Org to launch the #HomecomingChallenge through his organization’s 6Tag platform.
The partnership stems from Bacon’s commitment to equal opportunity and support for all children. “Through my charity Sixdegrees.Org, we’ve been looking for a way to have a bigger impact on this world. When I learned about SOS Children’s Villages, I felt like I had a responsibility to share their work with others so they can make an even greater impact for children. I love that SOS delivers real results. Their model is comprehensive and they help children thrive. By working with organizations like SOS that focus on prevention, long-term care and youth empowerment, we can give children a strong foundation that lasts a lifetime. And that foundation starts with a home. While every child should have a loving home, many simply don’t. Robbing them of this fundamental need sets them off on the wrong foot for life."
Bacon adds that: "Every child should know that comfortable feeling of coming home after a long day. Together, we can raise awareness of the urgent need to find safe, loving homes for children across the U.S."
The #HomecomingChallenge is based on the belief that every child should know the comfortable feeling of coming home after a long day. It is intended to spotlight the urgent need to find safe, loving homes for children across the U.S.
To take the challenge, a person creates a short video of their routine when they come home, then shares the video with friends and family via social media using the hashtag #HomecomingChallenge. The campaign raises money and awareness for SOS-USA’s work to support vulnerable children and youth in the U.S. and inspires growing support for SOS's global work with orphaned, abandoned and vulnerable children. Bacon shared his own #HomecomingChallenge video on Facebook and Twitter.
And Bacon believes that foundation starts with a home. “While every child should have a loving home, many simply don’t. Robbing them of this fundamental need sets them off on the wrong foot for life,” he says.
Actress Kyra Sedgwick, actor Jesse Metcalfe, actress Beverley Mitchell and other celebrity influencers also took the Homecoming Challenge. “At SixDegrees, we really try to shed light on charities that are doing extraordinary work," Bacon shares. “As a community, we can gather to create real impact."
