Emergency response

SOS’s emergency response teams provide humanitarian aid until a community is ready for sustainable independence. Our work focuses on child protection in emergencies; preventing institutional care; and continuing education in emergencies.

Education

By providing schooling, increasing access and preventing interruptions to education, SOS helps families protect children from trafficking, child labor and other threats that could hinder a child’s development or lead to state involvement and protective services.

Empowering young people

Together with supporteres like you, SOS promotes the successful transition into adulthood with focused work in the areas of employability, skills training and higher education and the successful transitions into independent adulthood.

Mental and medical health

SOS supports children coping with trauma or other mental health challenges with guardians providing trauma-informed care, supplemented by mental health experts, helping to prevent long-term learning disorders or persisting mental health issues.

Quality care

SOS Children’s Villages provides family-based, trauma-informed care with loving SOS guardians—keeping siblings together whenever possible—raising children with loving social and emotional bonds.

Ending violence against children (EVAC)

SOS protects children and young people with work focused on the prevention of sexual abuse; corporal punishment, neglect and abandonment; trafficking; online abuse; unsafe learning environments; exploitation of migrating and unaccompanied minors.

Gender equality

SOS supports gender equality with focused work on the prevention of gender-based violence, women’s economic empowerment, positive masculinity and equitable and respectful homes with balanced responsibilities.

Family strengthening

SOS helps families stay together by providing family-strengthening programs and services that focus on mental health and medical care; positive parenting; education; gender equality; economic empowerment; migration and refugees; and child care support.

Advocacy & safeguarding

Our advocacy work aims to change legislation to improve local and national child and family care systems. We amplify young voices, working with states and partners to help ensure that children without adequate parental care are served, empowered and respected.
