SOS USA is seeking a Vice President of Development & Communications to play a critical role in: a) continuing to strengthen current philanthropic relationships; b) expand SOS-USA’s individual and institutional donor base; c) lead the development and marketing teams in building new campaigns with existing and new markets to garner increased investment in our mission; and d) co-create with staff and leadership SOS USA’s theory of change, detailing the expected results and impacts of scaling a proven model of successfully improving children’s lives across the USA and in other countries. The VP will serve as a member of the Executive Team. The VP’s team will consist of 4 – 5 direct reports that manage staff and consultants. This position is based in Washington, DC, and reports directly to the CEO.

In partnership with the CEO and the SOS USA staff, the VP will grow a sustainable fundraising, marketing and communications team that can leverage the positive social impacts made by SOS Children’s Villages into the US market.  The immediate goal is to ensure 2020 is a year that sets a strong foundation that meets revenue targets while increasing unrestricted funds that bring new visibility and financial support to SOS USA, in line with the strategic plan. SOS USA’s current donor base consists of child/village sponsorships, individual donors, foundations, corporations, and major donors.

The Vice President of Development and Communications will also work to advise on organizational strategy and direction to ensure that philanthropic objectives are considered throughout. Critical to the success of SOS USA, they will be responsible for setting the direction of fundraising to build a strong foundation for lasting fundraising success. SOS USA is seeking an enthusiastic Content and Marketing Coordinator to support the Content Team as well as the Marketing Team with the collection, curation and development of written, multimedia and digital content to tell the SOS USA story.  Your focus will be to build the overarching narrative to help bring the caring communities in the USA into the mission and work of SOS. Showing those communities that they can make an impact by sponsoring families, children and donating to SOS USA as one of their primary charities of choice. This role is instrumental for developing across-the-funnel engagement, converting awareness to engagement and contribution.

This role serves both an inside and an outside role needing to consider the external audiences and moving them to connecting with SOS USA, as well as working interdepartmentally - with the various development staff who are working to customize content needed to talk to donor audiences which include but are not limited to mass market individuals, philanthropic and corporate foundations, corporate social responsibility and employee engagement staff at for-profit businesses, as well as high net worth donors.

You will have an opportunity work on content creation, assist with strategic dissemination and collaborate with team members to build the right campaign content to serve all SOS USA audiences. You will also work to maintain SOS USA's social media channels and create engagement through those platforms that yield investments from followers.

The position is based in Washington, DC. The Content Coordinator &  Marketing Coordinator will report to the head of Content team and will work collaboratively with head of Marketing team on all aspects of communications.


SOS Children's Villages-USA is a nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC that raises funds for SOS Children's Villages International. These funds go to over 570 SOS villages in 136 countries around the world to provide permanent, loving homes for orphaned or abandoned children. Each home is part of a village, and each child has a loving mother -- often for the first time in his or her life. Beyond creating and sustaining villages, SOS also supports emergency relief, schools, social programs and medical facilities worldwide.

The Digital Marketing team manages the social media feeds, website content, PSA production, email campaigns and other digital communications for SOS Children's Villages USA. The team focuses on creating new and exciting content to inform and fundraise to support SOS international programs.


Corporate & Foundation Partnerships Intern
The Corporate & Foundation Partnerships team work with corporations and foundations to build awareness of and raise funds for the SOS Children's Villages global mission. 
As the intern for this team, you will gain first-hand development experience at an international NGO. Duties associated with this position include, but are not limited to the following: drafting content for grant proposals and reports, preparing written briefs, summarizing complex information from multiple sources, donor prospecting, conducting research, and providing administrative support.

Strong writing, research, analytical and organizational skills are required. Flexibility, creativity, and close attention to detail is a must.
