The Vice President of Philanthropy will be responsible for generating the revenue needed to meet the ambitious fundraising targets of SOS USA, including taking lead on branding, communications, and marketing as well as mid-level and major-gift fundraising, volunteer-led events, and planned giving. They will be a member of the Senior Leadership Team reporting directly to the CEO and advising on organizational strategy and direction to ensure that philanthropic objectives are considered throughout. Critical to the success of SOS USA, they will be responsible for setting the direction of fundraising to build a strong foundation for lasting fundraising success. The Grants and Program Manager will play a key role in bringing new visibility and financial resources to SOS USA, in line with the strategic plan. SOS USA’s current donor base consists of monthly child/village sponsors, individual donors, corporations, and major donors. Over the next 18 months, the Grants and Program Manager – a new position – will help lead the formal launch of a game-changing revenue stream.

 

The Grants and Program Manager will identify, pursue, build, and manage strategic relationships with premier private foundations. This position will ultimately secure and directly manage investments from large, private foundations and will also support the development of new grants, partnerships, and learning opportunities in accordance with SOS’s strategy. The Grants and Program Manager will craft high-quality, compelling, and successful letters of inquiry, proposals, and reports, incorporating existing language and data as well as constructing new framing and positioning to build cohesive narratives for prospective foundation, corporate, and government revenue opportunities that are in alignment with SOS priorities and strategic goals.

 

The Grants and Program Manager will build new internal framing documents as well as external-facing concept notes and proposals that demonstrate SOS’s impact and will assist with additional copywriting, editing, and development of donor stewardship materials as necessary. This position will establish good working relationships with program staff to ensure clear and timely communication for grant proposal development and reporting requirements.

The Grants and Program Manager will develop and implement a plan for growth that includes the identification and engagement of new foundation and corporate leads for SOS Children’s Villages USA; the strategic management of these foundation relationships; the writing of compelling 7-figure proposals reflecting forward-thinking programs and initiatives; management of a reporting and stewardship calendar for the portfolio; and close coordination with colleagues from across the global organization – all done with a focus on the overarching goal of increasing robust foundation revenue growth for SOS USA. This position will report to the Vice President of Corporate & Foundation Relations and will also work closely with the CEO. This position is located in Washington, DC, and will require occasional travel.

SOS USA is seeking an enthusiastic Marketing & Communications Associate to develop and manage our marketing strategy and plan, with the goal of sharing our story and driving brand awareness of SOS Children's Villages. This role is pivotal for developing across-the-funnel engagement, converting awareness to engagement and contribution. In addition to marketing planning and implementation, the role includes media outreach and communications.

 

This role presents an outstanding opportunity for the right marketer. You will have an opportunity to touch everything from content creation to marketing planning and partnership development. You will gain experience working in the media and social landscapes, as well as play an important role in communications and public relations.

SOS Children's Villages-USA is a nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC that raises funds for SOS Children's Villages International. These funds go to over 570 SOS villages in 136 countries around the world to provide permanent, loving homes for orphaned or abandoned children. Each home is part of a village, and each child has a loving mother -- often for the first time in his or her life. Beyond creating and sustaining villages, SOS also supports emergency relief, schools, social programs and medical facilities worldwide.

 

SOS interns play a vital part in the success of our organization. Internships are unpaid positions within our Washington, D.C. office.  All candidates must be available for at least 3 months and a minimum of 20 hours/week. Credit hours can be provided if applicable.

As one of the largest international NGOs, SOS Children’s Villages International has a office in New York, at the United Nations headquarters, as part of its advocacy and partnerships work. The office in New York works in supporting governments and our partners from diverse civil society networks towards the recognition of children without parental care or those at risk of losing it and ensuring commitments to improve their situation of disadvantage by fulfilling their rights.

 

This traineeship offers the opportunity to support the work of the New York office. The trainee’s main responsibilities will entail to support the office staff with internal and external communications; to track the status of different governmental processes and negotiations; to conduct research on requested topics; support with admin tasks and support with logistics, event preparations, and outreach activities.
