SITUATION OVERVIEW
 
Nearly 71 million young people worldwide are unemployed. As this number continues to grow, so does the young people who live in extreme poverty. Too many children are unable to break the cycle of poverty and find a path to independence. Children without parental care are particularly at risk. SOS works to reduce youth unemployment and poverty to give children a brighter future.

HOW?

 

SOS Children’s Villages works to develop well-rounded and self-sufficient young adults, no matter their starting point in life. SOS takes a comprehensive and tailored approach to each individual’s passions and skills – working to empower each individual to reach their full potential. A study conducted by the Boston Consulting Group shows that investing in the SOS approach for supporting disadvantaged youth provides a return on investment of up to $14 for every $1 invested.

Education

SOS provides access to quality education, tutoring and test preparation to help youth earn their high school diplomas and beyond.

Employment

SOS offers access to vocational training, hands-on learning through apprenticeships and real-life work experience to give youth the skills that employers are looking for, while entrepreneurial skills development programs prepare young people to go into businesses on their own.

Empowerment

SOS builds resilience, self-confidence and self-worth in youth through life skills guidance and training, advocacy and leadership coaching, individualized mentorship and community engagement.
