Genet traveled great distances to provide medical care for her young son, but her family’s small income quickly became depleted. Without access to consistent treatment, Taye’s seizures became more frequent.
Unable to walk, Taye relied on his mother to travel or catch him when he collapsed from a seizure. Without any support or professional physical or mental health care, Genet fell into a deep depression.
Then, she connected with SOS Children’s Villages mobile health and nutrition team. The team visited Genet’s village, providing free medical services and mental health support. Thanks to the compassion of people like you, Taye received much-needed medication for his seizures and Genet received mental health counseling!
With a consistent treatment plan, Taye began to walk, talk and play—no longer reliant on his mother for transportation or communication.
“I was so surprised and happy,” Genet said. “He’s never been better. He is eating and drinking well.”
The mobile health team also worked with other families in the village, encouraging a shameless and healthy perspective of mental health that helped community members reduce the stigma around mental health and receive needed support.
Because of generous health care gifts like yours, Taye, Genet and their whole community has access to essential health care services!
